4th of July

Yay!  Summer is in full swing.  I haven't been posting as many bentos because school is out, but in about seven weeks we start up again.  Summer always flies by!  My Bento Blogging Friends and I are having a Patriotic Blog Hop to celebrate Independence Day.

My 9 year old daughter is all about peace signs.  I had the glasses and went with the theme.  I made a peace sign sandwich,  apples, and blue Jell-O.  I also added red, white, and blue sprinkles.  Sometimes it is just that simple. :)

Okay, while I was making Jell-O I thought, hey I've seen all these cool orange Jell-O wedges floating around Pinterest lately so why not try it.  Turns out it is a little trickier than it looks.

So, I scraped out an orange...

...filled it with Jell-O and then put it in the fridge. In the mean time Jell-O leaked out somehow.  My oranges were not exactly full when it was time to take them out.

Slicing them was a whole other dilemma.  I could not get the cute wedge.

Oh well, I tried (but won't be again).  Luckily they tasted great and my kids didn't mind at all they they were not Pinterest worthy :)

nom nom nom.

Up next on the Blog Hop is my friend Jenn at Bento For Kidlet.

  8. At least you got SOME of your Jell-o to stick to the peel! I think it might be easier to get wedges if you flip it upside-down and slice through the bottom first, but I may be steering you wrong. I'm not known for my stunning successes...

    Love the sammie!
